13 April 1944. The US Air Force B-17 “Royal Flush” was shot down by German flak in Chievres, Belgium during its flight back after a successful raid in Schweinfurt, Germany. The plane crashed in a field in Fouleng killing 6 out of the 10 crew members. Three were airmen were hidden by the local resistance while the fourth, injured, was made POW by the Germans.Â
